Content : Like fire, the wheel, printing, the telephone and the airplane, glasses are considered to be one of mankind's greatest inventions! They enable us to correct visual defects and protect ourselves from the sun or dust. But it took centuries of thought and invention to get there!
This book takes us on a voyage of discovery through the evolution of glasses: from a simple plate or ball of glass, they became bezicles in the 15th century, and it was not until 500 years later that temples were introduced.
Other aspects are also addressed, notably social and societal: while glasses have long been synonymous with wealth and power, they have also been mocked and seen as a weakness. Even today, they continue to evolve: synonymous with practicality and comfort, of course, but also protection against the sun, water for swimmers, fire for welders and smelters... Technology is even catching up with them: they are now equipped with cameras, microphones and loudspeakers!

This documentary invites us to reflect on our use of this everyday object. Because everyone who needs glasses should be able to wear them!

About the author: Cécile Benoist became an author and journalist after completing a thesis in sociology. Her books are hybrids in which true stories, scientific knowledge, fiction and legend meet and echo one another. Here, she offers us a documentary, narrative text that can be read from beginning to end like a story, or pecked at bit by bit. This is her second title with Kilowatt.

About the illustrator: Leen Degezelle is a young Belgian illustrator based in Brussels, whose work is distinguished by an expressive, bold graphic style. Passionate about vibrant colors and dynamic compositions, she creates visual worlds that capture the attention of young readers with their unique energy. Sensitive to contemporary and engaged themes, Leen likes to explore stories that combine humour and depth, while adding a touch of freshness and originality. Her illustrations, full of detail and surprises, invite children to immerse themselves in an imaginative, interactive reading experience. This is her first publication with Kilowatt, but you will soon see her in another collection!

The “Object Story” collection invites children to take a fresh look at an object which, through its evolution and our uses, is changing the way we live day by day. Non-fiction to read as a story, illustrated like a picture book, to look at the world through a familiar object.
