Content : Let’s follow Little Noun, the little hippopotamus, to the heart of a pyramid!
Instead of taking a nap, Little Noun prefers to go and see the pyramids. Small from the river, they turn out to be real mountains of stone. On one of them, still under construction, men are hard at work. There he meets his friend Pyaï, who tells him that the pyramids hide many secrets. Taking advantage of the workers’ departure, Little Noun slips inside. But then he starts sliding, sliding... until he lands in complete darkness. He calls for help! But no one hears him. No one? Yes! A scarab beetle. It quickly goes to warn his friends. Armed with a torch and accompanied by fireflies, Pyaï and the animals manage to find the little hippo—and there, what a marvellous treasure! The walls are covered with magnificent frescoes. In the end, they all make it out safe and sound.
About the author: Born in a border town in the North, to a German father and a French mother of Belgian origin, Géraldine Elschner has always lived between several cultures – perhaps the source of her taste for crossing frontiers. During her studies in German and Literature, followed by training as a children’s librarian, she set off for three months in Germany… and has been living there ever since. After translating many children’s books, she began writing her own texts, in which Art and History play a major role. By now, around fifty titles have been published, both in German and in French – and translated into some twenty languages.
About the illustrator: After years of being a migratory bird in Germany and England, Anja Klauss settled on her little cloud not far from the rooftops of Strasbourg. Since graduating from the School of Decorative Arts, she has illustrated and written several fairy tales and picture books in France and Germany. Her dreamy work was rewarded with the First Prize in an international children’s book competition.
