An essential guide to (re)discovering the art of portraiture through a sensitive and comprehensive approach.
In this inspiring and structured guide, Amandine Comte explores the art of portraiture with a rare balance between poetic vision and precise pedagogy.
A richly illustrated and complete book: Organised into four major sections, the book offers a natural and progressive journey — from the history of portraiture to contemporary practices.
Meeting a growing demand: At a time when artistic practice is enjoying a revival, many enthusiasts want to move beyond purely decorative work and explore more human and emotional themes. This book arrives at just the right moment.
A personal and embodied approach: The author shares her own techniques using coloured pencils, graphite, watercolour, Indian ink, and markers, enabling readers to experiment with multiple mediums and find their own creative path.
Practical exercises to make real progress: The final section offers clear, targeted exercises — from quick sketches to managing positive and negative spaces, and even staging a background — perfect for self-taught artists or workshop settings.

With its refined aesthetic and graceful illustrations, this book will appeal both to budding artists and to graphic art lovers who appreciate the beauty of the line.
