A hospital room. In the bed, a boy. Beside him, a girl, waiting for him to wake. Through Romeo’s coma, his story unfolds: why, how, what paths in life led him here?
A moving book written in verse, addressing difference, the weight of patriarchy, toxic masculinity, and bullying… The author weaves into this poetic writing different fragments: text messages, small ads, a few passages in prose.
About the author: Lisa Balavoine was born in 1974 in Amiens, a city in the north of France where the brick-lined streets have something of an English feel. As a child and teenager, she was always reading, never imagining that one day she would write in turn. Drawn to books and writing, she studied literature, which led her to become a French teacher. Today, she works as a school librarian in a vocational high school.
After taking time to raise three wonderful children, Lisa Balavoine began writing daily notes, short pieces, and brief stories. In 2018, this writing became her first novel for adults, Éparse (JC Lattès). She has also published short stories in the literary magazine Décapage, as well as music reviews for the website Section26 and the project Écoutons nos pochettes, for in addition to her love of literature, she is a passionate fan of indie pop music.
"Un garçon c’est presque rien" is the first novel she has written for teenagers.
