Since the Great Stink, which struck two years earlier, London has been shrouded in perpetual fog. Even more unsettling, some corpses are rising from their graves. They are called the Rotters.

Léandre, a young lord and medical student, is convinced that these creatures hold the key to saving his sister, who is suffering from a fatal illness. To uncover their secrets, he will have to team up with Winifred, a journalist as infuriating as she is brilliant.
