Fourteen-year-old Charles works on the construction of the Statue of Liberty in Paris. One evening, he notices some strange goings-on around the statue and discovers a hidden message deep inside the Copper Lady. He soon realises that a conspiracy is being hatched to delay the project — and perhaps even bring it to a halt.

At the same time, Charles is accused of stealing the notebook belonging to Bartholdi, the sculptor behind the statue.

Joined by Claudie, a street thief, and Valentine, the daughter of Gustave Eiffel, Charles will do everything he can to prove his innocence… and make sure the construction is completed.

This novel offers a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the design and construction of the Statue of Liberty. Written by an expert author who works at the Musée des Arts et Métiers, it combines historical intrigue with a gripping adventure story. A short non-fiction section at the end of the book reveals more about this incredible feat of engineering and craftsmanship.
