Content : In 1914, 17-year-old Jean already works in the same factory as his father. He cannot imagine spending his whole life there when his greatest dream is to move to Paris and become a painter. He spends every break and evening sketching in his notebook.
When war breaks out, Jean believes his chance to follow his destiny has finally arrived. Against his parents’ wishes, he enlists and is soon sent to the front. During his first assault, a shell explodes beside him, severely injuring his face. Jean wakes in hospital, disfigured and traumatised. Fortunately, a blond angel is watching over him…

About the author: Born in 1970, Johan Heliot has been a full-time writer since 2002, after teaching history, geography and French at a vocational high school. He has published around a hundred short stories in a wide range of publications, as well as some sixty novels with numerous publishers, covering all genres of speculative fiction, including science fiction, fantasy and thrillers. He writes for both adults and young readers and currently lives in the Vosges with his wife and cats.
